Development of English Reading Comprehension Ability for Grade 8 Students Based–on the SQ4R Teaching Methods.

Abstract

The purposes of this study were 1. to develop English reading skills for comprehension with effective with 75/75 2. to find the effectiveness of English reading comprehension skills for students with SQ4R learning activities 3. to compare of English reading comprehension for students with SQ4R learning activities before and after learning and 4. to study the students' satisfaction with English reading comprehension activities by using SQ4R learning activities. It is a quantitative research. The research tools consisted of a teaching model/learning management unit, a test, and a satisfaction questionnaire. The target group was 60 secondary school students of Ban Tha Sawang Wittaya School Muang District Surin Province, by choosing a specific form in semester 2/2019. The research started on 1 January 2020 - 30 June 2020 and used the collected data. From the research tools were analyzed using descriptive statistics consisting of percentage, mean, standard deviation, The results showed that 1) The lesson’s learning in English reading comprehension with SQ4R learning activities along with students in Mathayom 2 with the efficiency E1/E2 equal to 76.00/ 80.00 which is in accordance with the assigned criterion. 2) The effectiveness index (E.I.) of the learning activities for English reading comprehension with SQ4R learning activities established standards. Shown that the students progressed in their learning at 49.78 percent. 3) The comparison of English reading comprehension, the comparison results of English reading comprehension for students found that the post-test scores were higher than before learning with statistical significance at the level of 0.05 and 4) The student’s satisfaction toward English reading comprehension activities with SQ4R learning activities was at a high level (= 3.74, SD = 0.67)
