Factors affecting persistent of Drug convict Phetchaburi Central Prison

Abstract

This study aimed to (1)  indentify social structure and social process of drug convicts

in Central Prison Phetchburi (2) explain effects of personal factors, social structure, and socialization on their persistent offences. Questionnaires were used to collect the data from the sample were 212 drug convicts in Central Prison Phetchburi who had committed any kind of drug-related persistent offences at least two times. The statistics used for data analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Chi-Square, and correlation.

The study revealed a high level of social structure, which included good economic condition, community environment, and livelihood. Social process of the convicts- as a whole, relationship, and experience were low level. Socialization of the convicts- as a whole and when all aspects were a high level. The study also revealed a low level of positive correlation between social structure and social process and persistent offences of the convicts. Social structure was positive correlation with reasons for committing persistent offences at a high level. In addition, social structure, social process, and socialization were irrelevant to the number of persistent offences committed and also irrelevant to both period of and reasons for persistent offences committed.
