บทคัดย่อ

The purpose of this quasi-experimental research was to study the effectiveness of a cultural competence enhancement program using experiential learning to study cultural care behavior. The participants were recruited volunteers, consisting of 42 registered nurses; were divided into two groups of 21 registered nurses in the experimental group and the control group, using convenience sampling. The data were collected a 6 point rating scale-based questionnaires as cultural competence and cultural care behavior with a reliability of .95, .96 respectively. This study was analyzed with Repeated Measure ANOVA. The results found that nurses who participated in this program had higher levels of cultural competence and cultural care behavior in the post-study and follow-up phases and the control group was significant (p <.05). A comparison between the mean scores of each pair found that the cultural competence and cultural care behavior scores after finishing the program and follow-up after 1 month found that experimental group score was higher than the control group score and post-test with a medium effect size and a follow-up test with a high effect size as being significant (p <.05). However, a comparison between the mean scores of each pair pre and posttest of experimental group were not different with control group.  This program may be useful for the application of training registered nurses who take care of patients from different backgrounds to enhance cultural competence and cultural care behaviour.
