Abstract

The Behavioral Science Research Institute is recognized for its excellence in research production. Knowledge of the development process of behavioral science researchers need to be explored. The objectives were to study the development process of behavioral science researchers and to explore approaches to the enhancement of behavioral science researchers following the research and innovation directions of the country. The qualitative case study was adopted. The key informants were selected using purposive sampling based on criterion. The first group consisted of graduate students with outstanding research and the second group consisted of program committees, lecturers, and employers. The data were collected through in-depth interview. A content analysis was used to analyze the data. The results found that behavioral science researchers went through the development process comprised of three stages. The first stage is called “Study Stage” in which students are trained by lecturers both inside and outside the classroom. The second stage is called “Research Stage” in which students prepare to conduct research through self-learning. The last stage is called “Research Publication Stage” in which students are trained after they have finished their research. For the strengthening of curriculum and teaching management was suggested by related parties as a pathway to the enhancement of behavioral science researchers following the research and innovation directions of the country. Based on knowledge yielded by this research can be applied by faculty/institute/bureau and lecturers responsible for graduate programs in different fields of social sciences to teaching and learning in each field’s context.
