Abstract

This research consists purposes were to study a Synthesis of Studies on Cultural Tourism Management by Community Participation” This research aimed to synthesize knowledge on cultural tourism management by community participation. Qualitative synthesis was utilized, and the samples consisted of 24 research studies and theses from the Digital Research Information Center. The study on the characteristics or the research revealed that most of the research papers were published from 2014 to 2019; participatory research methodology was applied. The knowledge on cultural tourism management by community participation was divided into four areas. The first was cultural tourism management process. The process included building understanding of cultural tourism within the community, setting a working group, seeking and gathering information about cultural resource within the community, analyzing the potential and possibilities of managing tourism, planning activities and travel services, implementing the plan, developing the tourist market, expanding the network, and following up and evaluating. The second was the strategy for managing cultural tourism which was to develop the community’s potential in managing tourism services. The third was community participation which included collaboration in inventing and analyzing the potential of the community, making decisions, planning, co-operating, and evaluating. The fourth was factors related to cultural tourism management which included cultural resource, working group potentials, and external supports. In the development of cultural tourism, tourist attractions and community’s potential in management are needed so that the community can learn and lead its position to sustainable tourism.
