Used Car Trading Standards and Consumer Protection: A Case Study of Toyota’s Used Car Standards.

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to 1. To study the background, concepts and theories related to used car standards and consumer protection 2. To know about the legal measures related to used car standards and consumer protection in foreign countries and in Thailand 3. to analyze the problem of consumer protection from buying a used car; and 4. to study the solution to the problem with recommendations to seek ways to improve the law of Thailand to be more effective. This is a qualitative research. There are research tools such as an interview form with a target group of 20 people who came from a specific selection. Then use the information gathered from the interview form. to analyze the content. The results showed that 1) In many countries there are standards for used cars and consumer protection before and after they are sold. The pre-sale measures 2) Used cars at present have a second-hand car warranty. The second-hand car business guarantees that the used car sold will be of good quality. 3) In many countries, legal measures have been put in place to force used car operators to provide information about the condition of the used car before selling it. Especially in Japan, there is a rating system that shows the condition of used cars for sale. There will be experts to check the condition of the car and evaluate it as a score. and 4) Thai law has yet to clearly and appropriately provide measures to remedy the defects of used cars that occur after being sold, such as remedial measures for car repairs, replacement of new cars, refunds, and price reimbursement, such as legal measures in The state of New York, USA, clearly stipulates the buyer's right to be repaired if the vehicle is defective. If it cannot be repaired, a refund must be made to the buyer. In the Commonwealth of Australia and the Kingdom of New Zealand, the Buyer's right to demand the Seller repairs. Exchange the product and get a refund as well.
