Serng Rhythm Isan Long Drum Band to Create for Drumline.

Abstract

This academic article aims to present the pattern of Serng rhythm, one of the popular rhythms in Isan long drum band, to transcribe the original music notation and develop into a western notation performing in a drumline model.  In accordance with the transcription, the traditional Thai music notation of Serng rhythm has been rearranged in a new model of western notation.  The outcome in transcribing music notation of Serng rhythm in Isan long drum band includes: applying a new music notation to perform in a drumline model, creating a new creativity in music transcription, performing in various opportunities among western music bands, reserving Isan folk wisdom, promoting culture and arts of local Isan for achieving international standard, and eventually developing the rhythm of Isan folk performance into a modern style.  Besides, not only transcription and recomposing Serng rhythm in Isan long drum band can be developed into a drumline model, but also teaching drum set lessons, composing contemporary music, combining traditional Isan musical sounds or lyrics with modern western music and etc.
