Abstract

The present study aimed 1) to compare learning achievement of students who learnt probability of Mathematics before and after learning through POLYA approach together with SSCS, 2) to compare problem solving ability of students who learnt probability of Mathematics before and after learning through POLYA approach together with SSCS, 3) to compare learning achievement and problem solving ability of students who learnt probability of Mathematics through POLYA approach together with SSCS and traditional approach. The sample of the study consisted of 27 students of 4/1 classroom who learnt through POLYA approach together with SSCS and 27 students of 4/2 classroom who learnt through traditional approach. They studied in the 2nd semester of the academic year 2019 and they were selected by cluster random sampling. The instruments used in the study comprised of 1) 12 lesson plans of Mathematics titled probability for Muthayomsuksa 4 students by using POLYA approach together with SSCS, 2) 12 lesson plans of Mathematics titled probability for Muthayomsuksa 4 students by using traditional approach, 3) 30 items of multiples choices learning achievement test and 4) 5 items of problem solving ability of Mathematics titled probability test. The data were analyzed by using mean, standard deviation percentage and ( t-test ) statistics.

The results of the study revealed that
1. The results of learning achievement test of students after learning through POLYA approach together with SSCS was higher than before learning significantly at .05 statistics.
2. The results of problem solving ability test of students after learning through POLYA approach together with SSCS was higher than before learning significantly at .05 statistics.
3. The results of learning achievement and problem solving ability of students through POLYA approach together with SSCS were higher than the results of students for those who learnt through the traditional approach significantly at .05 statistics.
