Air pollution is one of the problems of concern, as it could be transported to other parts of the region or even further to other regions. This article reviews the air pollution sources and the long-range transport in Southeast Asia, in particular the inflow of air pollution from outside the region and the outflow of Southeast Asian air pollution that affects other regions. It was found that the monsoon regime dominates the air mass transport in Southeast Asia. In the continental parts of the region, high levels of air pollution were found in the dry season as compared to those of the wet season as a result of the long-range transport of air pollution from East Asia and the biomass burning within the region. During the wet season, the monsoon brings clean marine air from the Indian Ocean. In the peninsular parts of the region, the phases of wet and dry seasons are opposite but similar seasonal characteristics were found.

Keywords: Air pollution; Carbon Monoxide; Southeast Asia; Climatology,
Long-range Transport

ER -
