The Motivation Strategy in Pali Learning in Phrapariyattidhamma Schools Pali Division

Abstract

The objectives of this dissertation were to study the status of learning Pali in Phrapariyattidhamma schools, Pali division, to develop motivation strategy in learning Pali in Phrapariyattidhamma schools, Pali division, and to investigate the motivation strategy in learning Pali in Phrapariyattidhamma schools, Pali division. The mixed methods research was used in the study. The qualitative data were collected from documents, in-depth interview with 10 key informants, and focus group discussion with 9 key informants. The quantitative data were collected by questionnaires from 144 samples consisting of school administrators, teachers, personnel and students in Phrapariyattidhamma schools, Pali division.


The results of the study showed that:


  1. The Pali learning was neglected by state and private sectors, lacked of plans and co-course design analysis, lacked of implementation of modern technology in teaching and learning system, and lacked of practical teaching and learning activities because the course syllabus and lesson plan were not completely followed and students also lacked inspiration in learning.

  2. Motivation strategy in Pali learning in Phrapariyattidhamma schools, Pali division consisted of: 1. Vision; qualified, standard and professional management in response to the requirement of Sangha and society, 2. Mission; (1) multiple learning processes to fulfill different requirements, (2) to create work satisfaction to teachers, and (3) to build incentive and positive attitude to learners in Pali learning, 3. Target; (1) the school environment should be safe and encouraging in learning, (2) to build the religious heirs in Pali learning, and (3) the concerned party should work together to improve the school system and create sustainable Pali learning, 4. The motivation strategy in Pali learning in Phrapariyattidhamma schools, Pali division consisted of 4 sub-strategies and 16 tactics; (1) 4 tactics in curriculum development strategy, (2) 4 tactics in instructional media development strategy, (3) 4 tactics in religious heir development strategy, and (4) 4 tactics in school management development strategy.

  3. The investigation of motivation strategy in Pali learning in Phrapariyatti-dhamma schools, Pali division indicated that advantage was at the highest mean, followed by appropriateness, righteousness and possibility respectively.
